“I am very proud of the campaign we ran, which focuses on the issues that matter to residents of the 37th Senate District: protecting property taxpayers, delivering for our public school students, passing common sense gun safety measures and addressing outdated sexual harassment polices,” she said, in a prepared statement.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer, who held the senate seat previously and whose resignation prompted the special election, said that Mayer is the kind of leader Westchester needs in the state Senate.

“Beginning today, our region can count on her to fight for what our neighbors believe in, and she will deliver on the agenda she has stood for throughout her entire career,” he said.

Mayer previously was state assemblywoman for the 90th Assembly District.

The 37 Senate District is comprised of the cities of Yonkers, New Rochelle, White Plains, the town and city of Rye and the towns of Bedford, Eastchester, Mamaroneck, Harrison and North Castle.
