SOUTH SALEM, NY — The pandemic not only derailed the most looked forward to social events in the area — it also put fundraising for a good cause behind schedule, but the successful return of a spring gala is good news for students.

The Meadow Pond PTO announced that it gathered with around 120 guests at Le Chateau on May 5 to raise funds for the school community. This was the first Spring Gala held by the PTO since 2018. A silent aunction was initially planned for 2020 but was sidelined indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We are so very grateful to our Meadow Pond parents and local businesses for their overwhelming support of our event," Co-VP of the Meadow Pond PTO/Spring Gala Chairperson Jenn Castelhano said. "As we began the planning process it was unclear how well the event would be supported with such a significant gap from 2018 to present and our parent community really came through with silent and live auction items, as well as contributions through ticket sales."

The event raised nearly $33,000 to help fund enrichment programs and learning opportunities at the school, including author visits, field trips and enhancements to the learning and growing garden. Notable donations were received from Carriage Barn Florals, Bedford Village Floral and platinum level sponsorships from AIA Imprint Group, Apex Fitness, Erin Lee Homes of Keller Williams Real Estate, The Law Office of Kate Poltrack, P.C., a Matrimonial and Family Law Firm and New Canaan Music.

"We look forward to restoring the Spring Gala as a biennial event to sustain our enrichment programs and enhance life at The Pond for our young learners," Castelhano added. "On behalf of the entire Meadow Pond PTO Board, PTO President Erin Lee, Co-VP Barbara Williams, Secretary Christina Powell and Treasurer Sean McLaine we want to thank our local businesses and parents for making this event a success."
