More Inmates at County Jail Treated for Drug Overdoses

Four were taken to hospitals Monday.

Four more inmates at the Westchester County Jail required medical treatment Monday night after apparent overdoses, bringing the total to 10 overdoses at the correctional facility over the past couple of days.

The jail was placed on lockdown Monday night following the most recent overdoses, and County Executive Rob Astorino had scheduled a press conference for today, July 21, to discuss the occurrences.

All cells and inmates were searched Monday night to determine whether any more were sick.

Two men, who are inmates at the jail, have been charged in connection with the first batch of six overdoses from Sunday. News 12 Westchester reports that the inmates appear to have gotten sick from smoking K2 or Spice, which is a synthetic form of marijuana.

How the contraband made its way into the jail is still under investigation.
