NY State Police: Connecticut Man Led Cops on High-Speed Chase in Bedford

The incident occurred on Sunday on I-684.

A 31-year-old New Milford, Conn. man led state police on a high-speed chase on I-684 Sunday before he crashed his car into a guard rail in Bedford, according to authorities.

Daquan D. Smith was arrested on charges of Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, a Class D Felony, Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, a Misdemeanor, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 2nd Degree, an unclassified Misdemeanor, and Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol.

According to state police, troopers monitoring traffic traveling on I-684 Sunday “observed a Nissan Altima traveling in excess of 80 miles an hour. With emergency lights and sirens activated, the patrol attempted to stop the speeding vehicle. The driver of the Nissan, later identified as Smith, continued to travel northbound failing to comply with police.”

During the high-speed pursuit, Smith almost struck two troopers on a separate traffic stop, forcing them to dodge the suspect vehicle.

Smith exited I-684 at Exit 6a and lost control of his car, striking a guide rail. He was not injured in the crash and was taken into custody without further incident.

Smith provided a breath sample that revealed a Blood Alcohol Content of .06 percent.

He was arraigned before the Town of Bedford Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to the Town of Bedford Court on Aug. 13.
