Overnight 2-Alarm Fire Destroys Bedford Home

Fire officials said that because of a lack of fire hydrants, a total of 13 tankers from other fire departments were required.

BEDFORD, NY — A house fire in Bedford shortly before midnight was controlled with the help of fire crews from around the region bringing water tankers to control the blaze.

Shortly before midnight Tuesday, Bedford Hills firefighters were called to a home on Meadow Brook Road. Tower Ladder 57 initially responded to the reported house fire. While still on the way to the scene, Fire Chief Aquilino (car 2041) requested additional tankers.

Fire officials said that because of a lack of nearby water sources, a total of 13 tankers from other Westchester County fire departments were called to the scene, making the fire a 2 alarm "plus."

Although images of the raging blaze show that the home was consumed by flames, the family was able to escape to safety.

Firefighters spent more than 5 hours battling the fire and were reportedly still working to extinguish hotspots throughout the morning.
