PNW BOCES Cancels Evening Classes

The National Weather Service issued a Special Weather Statement for northern Westchester.

Putnam-Northern Westchester BOCES has canceled all evening classes.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement for Westchester County Tuesday afternoon.

Snow showers will develop this afternoon through this evening. These will be locally moderate and possibly heavy for a brief time. Temperatures in some locations will be cold enough for snow to stick to the ground … creating slippery conditions. In addition … winds will become more gusty … with visibilities getting reduced to a mile or less at times. Total snow accumulations are expected to be near 1 inch or less.

Motorists should be aware of these conditions and travel extra slowly and carefully this afternoon through this evening.

Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather said light snow can be expected between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., with snow briefly intensifying for a short time. Snow showers should taper off between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

He said there is the likelihood of a heavy snow squall between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Several local school districts, including Peekskill, Lakeland, Yorktown, Brewster, Haldane, Putnam Valley and Carmel, have canceled afternoon and evening activities.
