Quaker Oats Granola Bars Recalled Over Listeria Fears

Listeria fears have forced another recall.

Quaker Oats is pulling its quinoa granola bars from shelves because sunflower seeds may have been contaminated with the bacteria, according to the FDA.

No illnesses have been reported because of the seeds, which Quaker Oats says came from a supplier.

The company did not offer specifics on how many granola bars are affected, but the company's website characterized it as "a small quantity."

The recalls include boxes of quinoa granola bars chocolate nut medley with UPC code 30000 32241 and Best Before Dates of 10/16/2016 and 10/17/2016. They also include boxes of quinoa granola bars yogurt, fruit and nut medley with UPC code 30000 32243 and Best Before Dates of 10/10/2016 and 10/11/2016.

According to Quaker Oats product locator, the product was sold throughout the Hudson Valley at ShopRite, Target and ACME stores, including those in Bedford Hills, Scarsdale, White Plains, West Nyack, Mount Vernon and New Rochelle.

The company says that anyone with these granola bars should contact Quaker Oats at 800-856-5781 or go to www.quakeroats.com. They can also return them to stores where they were purchased for a full return.

Listeria is a bacteria that can cause serious illness and can be fatal in young children, elderly people and people with weak immune systems.
