Registered Sex Offender Sentenced To Prison Again

He had previously served about nine years in prison and had finished five years of post-release supervision.

KATONAH, NY — A registered sex offender was sentenced to prison for getting a teenage girl to take sexually explicit images of herself and send them to him online. Geoffrey S. Berman, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, said Thursday that David Ohnmacht, 37, of Katonah, was sentenced to 390 months — or 32.5 years — for enticing a 14-year-old girl via Instagram to engage in sexual conduct and for engaging in this criminal conduct while a registered sex offender.

Ohnmacht pleaded guilty Sept. 4.

"This case underlines the urgent need for law enforcement to continue its efforts to protect children from those who prey on them," Berman said. "As today's sentencing demonstrates, we will use every tool available to law enforcement to prosecute and punish those who sexually exploit children."

Ohnmacht served about nine years in prison, and was released on Nov. 1, 2011.

Ohnmacht then began a five-year term of post-release supervision with New York State Parole which ended Nov. 1, 2016.

Authorities said, from Nov. 2016 through Feb. 2017, he communicated online with a 14-year-old girl using two different Instagram accounts.

Ohnmacht pretended to be a 19-year-old man on one of the accounts and a teenage girl on the other account.

He got the victim to take and send him sexually explicit images.

Ohnmacht told the girl that, if she did not make and send him additional images, he would post the girl's previous photos to her friends on Instagram.

In addition to the prison sentence, Ohnmacht was sentenced to 10 years of supervised release.
