Robert Durst to Face Murder Charge in Los Angeles

The South Salem real estate heir and HBO docu-series star is accused of killing a friend who may have had info on his missing first wife.

Robert Durst, who is suspected of killing his first wife, will return to Los Angeles in the summer to stand trial for the murder of another woman, a former friend named Susan Berman.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Durst agreed to be extradited from New Orleans, where he has been jailed for the balance of the year on weapons charges.

Durst was the subject of the HBO documentary series “The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst,” in which Berman’s killing was profiled and he appeared to confess to hers - and his first wife Kathie’s - murder.

“Once we get our case resolved in New Orleans, then we will work on getting him, Bob, to California where he can be brought to trial,” Durst’s lawyer, Dick DeGuerin, told The Los Angeles Times. The extradition deal DeGuerin struck with California prosecutors requires Durst to be in Los Angeles by Aug. 18, 2016. “We’re hoping to get it resolved and get him there as soon as possible.”

Kathie McCormack Durst’s family is currently suing him for $100 million in a wrongful death case, and they are seeking to have his assets frozen until the civil trial. Durst’s fortune is estimated to be worth about $100 million.
