Self Protection for the College & College-Bound Woman at Katonah Library on 8/4
Safety, empowerment and fun are the watchwords this Thursday, August 4 at Katonah Village Library from 5-7pm. Pizza will be served.

While our Northern Westchester school systems have rigorously prepared our students for the academic college life, most students could use a 101 on StreetSmarts. This two-hour interactive workshop will be a safe environment to tune into your natural abilities and practice preventative skills such as: Early Detection—recognize and effectively respond to danger’s early warning signs; De-escalation; Avoidance—become an unappealing target; Verbal Boundary Setting; Physical Self-efficacy—how to handle trouble in the rare cases when avoidance isn’t an option.
Self protection instructor Michael Robin will share lessons learned during fifteen years of safety education. Past appearances include: Westport, Wilton, Weston and Darien libraries; Depot Teen Center (Darien); Greenacres School (Scarsdale); Au Pair Care; Girl Scouts of the USA; Queer Eye for the Straight Guy; the United Nations (UN International School & Commission on the Status of Women).
"College is an exciting time of new freedoms and possibilities," says Robin. "Unfortunately, statistics show that it can also be a time of increased vulnerability, especially during the first semester. Problem-solving rehearsal that builds confidence and awareness should be a part of every student's preparation."
