Showers and Thunderstorms Possible in Northern Westchester, Putnam's Weekend Forecast

The weekend's not going to be a complete washout, and the sun will be present at times, but it appears that if you have outdoor plans, Sunday is the better of the two days.

Actually, if you’re not working today, then Friday is the best weather day by far. There is, however, an Air Quality Alert in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. for northern Westchester and the area is under a Hazardous Weather Outlook because of the chance for thunderstorms that could produce gusty winds, heavy rain and small hail.

Saturday’s forecast seems to be the dreariest as there is a chance for some showers and storms throughout the day and evening hours, and the chance for rain and storms lessens somewhat on Sunday.

Here is the forecast for the weekend for northern Westchester and Putnam counties from the National Weather Service:

• Today: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 90. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the afternoon.
• Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 1am. Cloudy, with a low around 69. East wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
• Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 76. East wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
• Saturday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. Light east wind.
• Sunday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 11am and 3pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. Northwest wind 5 to 11 mph.
• Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 62.
