Spitzer Investigated for Possible Assault, Accuser Recants
The woman who had called 911 from an expensive Manhattan hotel room has left the country.

The woman who initially said former New York governor Eliot Spitzer assaulted her has recanted her story.
Attorney Adam Kaufmann, representing Spitzer, said Tuesday the woman sent an unsolicited email to Spitzer that confirmed no assault had taken place, according to an article at foxnews.com.
This stems from an incident Saturday evening after a 911 call from a $1,000-a-night Plaza Hotel room.

Vanity Fair said the woman had called the emergency number because she had cut her wrist and was having a breakdown.
After police arrived on the scene, Spitzer told them everything was fine, but they returned to find bloodstains and a broken glass.

The woman returned to Russia over the weekend.
Spitzer resigned as governor in 2008 after information became public that he was paying for prostitutes.
