State Police Give Out Thousands Of Tickets Over Thanksgiving

They investigated more than 1,200 accidents, including one fatality.

State police issued more than 15,000 tickets around the state during the recent Thanksgiving holiday traffic enforcement period. The detail began Wednesday, Nov. 21 and continued through Sunday, Nov. 25.

During the campaign, which was funded by the governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, state police utilized sobriety checkpoints and additional DWI patrols and ticketed distracted drivers who used handheld electronic devices to issue a total of 15,115 tickets statewide.

Troopers arrested 215 people for DWI and investigated 1,244 accidents, including one fatality.

As part of the enforcement, Troopers also targeted speeding and aggressive drivers across the state.

The following is a sampling of the total tickets issued:

  • Speeding: 5,834
  • Distracted Driving: 774
  • Seatbelt violations: 485
  • Move Over Law: 218

During the 2017 Thanksgiving holiday enforcement campaign, the state police issued 15,360 total tickets and arrested 242 people for DWI.
