State Police Issued More Than 10K Tickets During July 4th DWI Campaign
In Troop K, the number of speeding tickets is down from last year, but the number of distracted driving tickets is up.
HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The New York State Police issued a total of 10,435 tickets statewide during the 4th of July STOP-DWI enforcement campaign. The special enforcement period began on Saturday, July 1 and continued until midnight on Tuesday, July 4.
During the 96-hour campaign, which was funded by the governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, State Police utilized fixed sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, ticketed distracted drivers, and conducted underage drinking details.
Statewide, Troopers arrested 240 people for DWI and investigated numerous crashes, which resulted in 248 people being injured and three fatalities. In Troop K, Troopers arrested 30 drivers for DWI and investigated 75 motor vehicle collisions, which resulted in a total of 25 people being injured.

As part of the enforcement, Troopers from Troop K also targeted speeding and aggressive drivers. Below is a sampling of the total tickets that were issued:
- Speeding: 364
- Distracted Driving: 24
- Seatbelt violations: 75
- Move Over Law: 25
During last year’s 4th of July enforcement campaign, the State Police from Troop K issued 496 speeding tickets, 13 distracted driving tickets, 38 seatbelt violations and 30 traffic tickets for the move over law.
