Suspended CO Involved Inmate In Illegal Activities

He was one of three corrections employees arrested in May.

BEDFORD, NY — A suspended correction officer has admitted his guilt in illegal activities involving an inmate victim. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said Wednesday that Iran Colon, 31, of Staten Island, pleaded guilty to first-degree promoting prison contraband and third-degree criminal sexual act, felonies.

The plea was accepted by Westchester County Court Judge Barry Warhit and Colon was scheduled to return to court for sentencing Feb. 27.

He is currently free on bail.

Colon was a correction officer based at the Taconic Correctional Facility in Bedford Hills and was suspended without pay May 2.

He was one of three employees of the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision arrested in May for illegal activities.

Garth Trail of Yonkers, a former head cook at the Taconic Correctional Facility, who was accused of engaging in a sexual act with an inmate victim in the kitchen area of the facility.

Former correction officer Melissa Hill of the Bronx was employed at Sing Sing Correctional Facility who was accused of having a romantic relationship with an inmate in connection with her employment at the prison.

Sing Sing, which is located in Ossining, is a maximum security prison that houses adult males. Taconic is a medium security correctional facility that houses women only.
