WEATHER UPDATE: Days of Rain Expected This Week

Westchester is currently experiencing "moderate drought" and "abnormally dry" conditions. The expected rain will help change that.

We’ve been missing something this past month, but Mother Nature will do her best this week to make up for lost time.

Rain, yes rain, is back in the forecast in a big way this week for Westchester County.

The National Weather Service forecasts periods of rain and possible thunderstorms beginning with the overnight tonight and lasting through Wednesday.

Thursday dries out a bit, under cloudy conditions, but a chance of rain returns Friday and lasts through the weekend.

“Another developing situation, is how the coastal disturbance and approaching frontal boundary will interact by mid week,” writes Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. “Originally, it was just a few scattered showers we were expecting. But now it seems that the energy along the coast will really enhance the moisture along the frontal boundary… We’ll have to watch this closely… because this would be some much needed rainfall, possibly over 1 inch, for many locations.”

Here are the specifics of the forecast from the NWS:

Today: Partly sunny. Patchy fog this morning. Highs around 80. East winds around 5 mph...becoming south this afternoon.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy. A slight chance of showers after midnight. Lows in the mid 60s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy. A chance of showers in the morning...then a chance of showers with isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. Humid with highs around 80. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 40 percent.

Tuesday Night: Showers likely with isolated thunderstorms. Humid with lows in the upper 60s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph...becoming northeast after midnight. Chance of rain 70 percent.

Wednesday: Showers likely with isolated thunderstorms in the morning...then showers likely in the afternoon. Breezy with highs around 70. North winds 15 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.

Wednesday Night: Cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers. Breezy with lows in the lower 50s.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy. Highs in the mid 60s.

Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy. Lows around 50.

Friday: Mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers. Highs in the lower 60s.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers. Lows around 50.
