Westchester County Legislator Pete Harckham Will Not Seek Re-Election

Democratic Westchester County Legislator Pete Harckham, who has served the residents of District 2 since 2007, has decided not to seek re-election in the fall.

Harckham made the announcement Tuesday on his Facebook page, stressing that he “loved this job like no other I’ve had.” Had he run for office again, it would have been for his fifth term.

“I have worked tirelessly on your behalf, serving as a full time Legislator and am proud to say that I have given my all to this position,” Harckham wrote. “Yet the only constant in life is change. As I consider what is best for my family and me looking out over the next two years, I have concluded that the best course of action is to not seek a fifth term as your County Legislator. I have loved this job like no other I’ve had, but it is time to move in a new direction for my family and career.”

Among other issues, Harckham is known for his work to protect the environment and reduce the size of government. He has served as Majority Leader, and has chaired the Rules Committee among others.

In his business life, he is president of Harckham Media Group, LLC, a strategic partnership of advertising, communications and production professionals.
