Westchester Prepared for Snow No Matter the Amount

The county executive briefed the media Friday.

Westchester County is prepared for the impending snow storm.

That’s the word from County Executive Rob Astorino, who held a press conference at noon Friday at the county’s new salt shed and Department of Public Works operations center in Valhalla.

Astornio said the county has already begun brining the roads, and salting will start before it begins to snow, which is expected in the overnight hours.

Extra patrols will be on the parkway, he said.

“The good news is it’s a Saturday,” Astorino said. “Hopefully there will be a lot less people on the road.”

All Westchester municipalities have been contacted to make sure they are fully staffed, he said, adding that if they have needs, they should let the county know.

Warming centers will be opened if necessary, Astorino said.

Regarding the possibility of coastal flooding, he said he was hoping there wouldn’t be major issues, but the county will react if need be.

“We are going to monitor it carefully,” he said.

As of Friday, Bee-Line buses were scheduled to maintain a normal Saturday schedule, but residents should check with westchestergov.com for updates as the storm progresses for route changes.

Astorino even said the county is ready to pitch in in other areas, such as New York City, as long as Westchester is OK.

He did, however, remind county residents to only use 911 in an emergency.
