Woman Thrown From Horse on Bedford Riding Trail
Bedford Police used their new UTV for the rescue.
BEDFORD, NY - A woman traveling one of the Bedford Riding Lane Association trails was thrown from her horse March 9.
Bedford police were called to the scene at 2:25 p.m. They reached her using their new Utility Terrain Vehicle to carry officers and paramedics from the road.
The woman, a 56-year-old New Jersey resident, suffered what appeared to be a serious right shoulder dislocation, police said. She was taken out to the ambulance on the UTV and transported by the Katonah-Bedford Hills Ambulance Corps to Northern Westchester Hospital Center in Mount Kisco.

This is the second rescue deployment for the Polaris Ranger 6x6 UTV.
It was a gift to the department from a Bedford resident who wishes to remain anonymous, police said. The donor and the police department recognized the need to traverse terrain that would not be accessible to normal emergency vehicles. In addition to the 100 linear miles of BRLA trails in town, there are nearly 1,300 acres of sanctuary property as well as walking paths in town parks, police said.
