North Bellmore Students Meet K-9 Unit, Try Gear During Eye-Opening Police Visit

NORTH BELLMORE, NY — North Bellmore fifth graders watched in awe as a police dog took down a New York State trooper, who was wearing a dog training bite suit, within seconds.

About 12 police officers visited Saw Mill Road Elementary School on Tuesday with a few canine companions to share about the canine unit during National Police Week.

More than 100 students tried on police equipment, sat in a patrol car, and learned about the canine unit.

The demonstration was organized by a parent who is in the NYS Police Department.
