Family Of 6, Including Children, Forced From Home After Bellmore Fire Thursday Morning: FD

1 police officer was evaluated for smoke inhalation, fire marshals said.

BELLMORE, NY — A family of six has been forced from their Bellmore home after a fire occurred this morning, fire marshals said.

Firefighters responded to the 2-story house on Martin Avenue at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office said. The fire, which was on the first floor, was brought under control within 25 minutes, with about 40 firefighters, fire marshals said.

One police officer was evaluated for smoke inhalation, but refused medical assistance, and no other injuries were reported, fire marshals said.

The building was deemed uninhabitable, and four adults and two children were displaced, fire marshals said.

Bellmore Fire Department was assisted by Merrick, North Merrick, and North Bellmore fire departments, all under the command of Chief Ozechowski, fire marshals said.

The NCFM's Office and NCPD Arson/Bomb Squad are investigating the cause of the fire, fire marshals said.
