• 4 Bellmore Residents Forced From Home After House Fire: FD (patch.com) — Bellmore residents are recovering after a Thursday night house fire on Shore Road that displaced four people and sent one person for evaluation for smoke inhalation. About 60 firefighters from Bellmore and neighboring departments quickly contained the basement blaze within 30 minutes, and county fire marshals and police arson investigators are now working to determine the cause.
   

• Hicksville-based anti-illiteracy nonprofit, Book Fairies, expands (longislandpress.com) — A Bellmore mom's idea has grown into Book Fairies, a Hicksville-based nonprofit that just distributed its 6-millionth book and moved into a much larger warehouse. Founded by Bellmore resident Amy Zaslansky, the group now has expanded space and a strengthened board to get more free books into schools, shelters, community groups, and incarcerated readers locally and worldwide.
