Grand Avenue Students Compete in Long Island Science Congress

The Student Network of Cooperative Science is a competitive science research program that was created at Grand Avenue Middle School in 2002. It consists of mentors from the high schools, as well as seventh and eighth-grade students who show interest and achieve academic excellence in Science.

The following students competed in the Long Island Science Congress in May:

  • Raven Peterson (Kennedy -- ninth grade)
  • Arielle Solomon
  • Taylor Haiduk
  • Maura Singleton
  • Gabrielle Korman
  • Syed Saif-ul Huda
  • Matthew Gibbons
  • Olivia Meyer (research)

High honors were awarded to Raven Peterson, honors were awarded to Arielle Solomon and Taylor Haiduk, achievement was awarded to Maura Singleton, and honorable mention was awarded to Gabrielle Korman and Syed Saif-ul Huda.

Raven Peterson was also awarded $150 for best in grade. Our high school members who assisted in mentoring the competitors were Joseph Cipriano, Katie Christoff and Aaron Goldstein.

Phillip Larsen, a student attending Clark University, also assisted by maintaining contact via Skype, as well as in person when he was home on vacations. He has been a member of the club since 2004, when he attended Grand Avenue.
