Man Drove Drunk at 89 MPH on Southern State: Police

The man was charged with a felony DWI, police say.

BELLMORE, NY - A Bellmore man was arrested after he was caught driving drunk at 89 mph on the Southern State Parkway in Bellmore on Tuesday night, according to State Police.

A state trooper stopped a white Dodge for speeding on the Southern State near exit 25 (Newbridge Road) at about 6:20 p.m., police said.

While interviewing the driver, 23-year-old Michael Fedowich, the trooper noticed an open beer can on the passenger seat, police said.

The trooper also detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath as he spoke, police said.

Fedowich failed sobriety tests and was arrested for DWI, police said.

A search of the car also revealed a bag containing about three grams of marijuana, police said.

Fedowich produced a positive breath sample of .10 percent BAC, over the legal limit of .08, police said.

He was charged with felony DWI (at least one conviction in the last 10 years), felony aggravated unlicensed operation, using a vehicle without interlock device, unlawful possession of marijuana, and traffic violations, police said.

He is due in court on April 8.
