Bellmore-Merrick Boys Bowling Takes Down Levittown Division

Calhoun senior Dan Mueller led the way in a big win on Monday.

The Bellmore-Merrick boys bowling team avenged an early-season loss to Levittown-Division with an 8-3 win on Monday afternoon. They also took the advantage in total pins, 2,368-2,342.

“We had four guys bowl consistent the first two games, picking up spares,” Bellmore-Merrick head coach Joe Bianca said. “When you’re getting 800 series, it is tough to beat teams when your bowling under 200 individually.”

Calhoun senior Dan Mueller started off strong with a score of 223, followed by another Calhoun senior, Scott Castellano, with a 206. Calhoun junior Joe Cucinella posted a 195 and Mepham senior Ricky Hough added a 188. Bellmore-Merrick easily took the first game by a score of 812-735.

Bianca stuck with the same four bowlers for the second game and in that, it looked to be a good decision. Mueller improved his score with a team-high 236. Castellano stayed consistent with his first game score and bowled a 202, followed by Cucinella with an even 200. Hough rounded out the scoring again with a 180. Bellmore-Merrick shot a combined nine strikes in their final 10 shots to take the second game, 808-749.

With the win in hand, a few substitutes came in to bowl the third game. Mepham senior Eric Schildt shot a score of 198. Calhoun junior Tom Bianco bowled a 186, followed by Mueller with a 181. Mepham senior C.J. Marino wrapped up the scoring with a round of 173. Levittown avoided the sweep with a big 858-738 win.

“The first two games, we definitely showed up. They were bowling well most of those games, but today was just our day,” Mueller said. “I’ve definitely been hot these last two weeks, Scott is getting to where he should be again, Joe is bowling well and Ricky is just being Ricky.”

Mueller recently shot a perfect score of 300 in an individual tournament over the winter break.

Bellmore-Merrick currently sits as the seventh-ranked team in Nassau County with a record of 5-3 after the win on Monday.

“Everyone else stepped it up today,” Bianca said. “Dan came in very confident and eager to get his average up. It is starting to come down to crunch time now.”

Bellmore-Merrick will take on Wantagh on Thursday at 4:15 p.m. at the Levittown South Lanes.
