Bellmore-Merrick CHSD Dominates at its Homecoming Game

Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District’s John F. Kennedy High School football emerged victorious over Sewanhaka High School at their homecoming match-up on Oct. 1.

The Cougars won 30-16 against the Indians under Friday night lights and amidst a constant drizzle of rain.

PTA members peddled much-needed warm weather gear and members of the district’s C.H.A.M.P. (Culinary and Hospitality Applied Management Program) grilled up burgers and hot dogs for attendees to snack on.

Alumni football members joined current players in the locker room for a pep talk ahead of the big game.

“This is the only sport where you can’t just do it alone,” said Paul Auersperg, a 1982 graduate.

Emily Herrera and Ron Lampert were crowned homecoming king and queen following a vibrant performance by the kickline team. The varsity cheer squad kept school spirit going along the sidelines throughout the game. Superintendent of Schools John DeTommaso, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction David Seinfeld and Legislator Steve Rhoads were also on hand to see the Cougar win.

“A little wet weather can’t dampen Cougar spirit,” said DeTommaso.
