Bellmore-Merrick Girls Bowling Downs Plainedge
Kate Brown leads Bellmore-Merrick to a win over Plainedge after losing to the same team earlier in the week.
The Bellmore-Merrick girls bowling team seeked redemption against a Plainedge team, which it lost to just days earlier, in a rematch on Thursday afternoon. The girls did just that, winning by a score of 8-3.
Calhoun senior Kate Brown continued her stellar season to help improve her team's record to 4-2 with a close win over Plainedge, edging them out on total wood 1,914-1,834.
"The girls stepped it up today, led by Kate Brown who has been my most consistent bowler," head coach Keri Cinelli said. "She really kept us in it."

Brown added a 166, followed up by another Calhoun senior in Nicole Celauro with a 159. Mepham senior Victoria Sorrentino rounded out the scoring with a 134. Bellmore-Merrick jumped out to an early lead with a 654-596 advantage.
Coach Cinelli stuck with the same four bowlers for the second game led by Brown, who found her mark to roll a 188, followed by her Calhoun senior counterpart, Celauro, with a 179. Cappuzzo and Sorrentino posted scores of 158 and 157 to help Bellmore-Merrick lock up the win with a 682-606 advantage.

Brown, Celauro and Cappuzzo all stayed in for the third and final game to post scores of 163, 149 and 144, respectively. Mepham junior Paige Laupheimer was substituted in for Sorrentino to bowl a 122, but Plainedge salvaged three points by taking the game 632-578.
"I was trying to hit my mark and adjust to there being a lot of oil out there," the senior Brown said. "I think we today we all were just on track compared to the first time against Plainedge."
The girls will now have an opportunity to avenge the next team they lost to, conference leader Levittown Division, as they will play each team a second time around starting next week.
Bellmore-Merrick faces off with MacArthur on Monday at 4:15 p.m. at Levittown South Lanes.
