Bellmore And North Bellmore School Budget Previews, Candidates On Ballot For 2026-2027

BELLMORE, NY — Bellmore and North Bellmore residents are set to head to the polls on Tuesday, May 19, to vote on the budget, tax increase, and candidates.

BELLMORE:

Bellmore residents can vote at Charles A. Reinhard Early Childhood Center on Tuesday, May 19, from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The 2026-2027 proposed budget is $43,308,299, an increase of 2.69 percent from the current 2025-2026 $42,174,160.

The budget carries a tax levy of $29,818,495, which is an increase of 2.57 percent from the current 2025-2026 $29,071,780. This is below the District's allowable cap.

Voters will elect one candidate to the Trustees of the Board of Education. The terms are three years. Incumbent Jay L.T. Breakstone is running unopposed.

Bellmore Schools' budget plan document includes information on where the budget will be allocated. The District said 77.86 percent of proposed expenditures will go towards instructional, 12.95 percent towards capital, and 9.19 percent towards administration.

Its plan includes the goal of maintaining all current programs and current class sizes, increasing technology advancements, facilities improvements, and more.

NORTH BELLMORE:

North Bellmore residents can vote at Newbridge Road School from from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19.

The 2026-2027 proposed budget is $73,023,717, an increase of 3.83 percent from the current 2025-2026 $70,332,774.

The budget carries a tax levy of $46,061372, which is an increase of 2.75 percent from the current 2025-2026 $44,829,488.

The proposed budget includes a $1,720,000 transfer to capital for fire alarm replacement at JGD, Martin Ave., Saw Mill, and Gunther.

Proposition II includes an authorization to expend from Capital Fund 2022 of a $3,500,000 capital reserve project. This will be allocated to a district-wide select restroom reconstruction. The District said this will not increase the tax levy.

With the proposed budget shared in a document, the District said they will continue to focus on an investment in instructional technology and efficiency, support students' learning and well-being, maintain safe and modern learning environments, and make upgrades to protect systems and facilities.

The District said they will allocate as the following:

• $55,273,135 towards Program.
• $9,565,065 towards Capital.
• $8,185,517 towards Administration.
