Bellmore School Budgets Approved

Bellmore residents approved the budgets for both the Bellmore and North Bellmore school districts Tuesday night.

In the Bellmore School District, residents approved the $36,230, 890 520 to 161. It's a 2.73 percent increase over the current year's spending plan, and includes a 2.86 percent tax levy increase.

Board of Education members Janet Goller and Maryanne Kelly ran unopposed for their seats. Goller earned 514 votes and Kelly got 532.

Voters in the North Bellmore school district also voted to approve their budget 1,131 to 523. The $57,435,017 spending plan was an increase of 0.4 percent. It comes with a tax levy increase of 2.8 percent.

On the Board of Education, incumbent Rosemarie Corless won back her seat with 924 votes. And newcomer Jo-Ann Erhard won a term with 904 votes. A third challenger, Peter Mayo, received 817 votes, but did not earn enough to win one of the two seats.
