Bellmore Striders Independence Day Run Set for Wednesday

The competitive running group will host its annual race on July 4.

The Bellmore Striders will host its Annual Independence Day Run on Wednesday morning.

The event will consist of The 4-Mile Run, which is open to all athletes from the age of 13 and older and the 1-Mile Youth Run, in which all runners that are 12-years-old and younger can participate.

Bellmore Striders is a competitive running organization that was started by Alex Cuozzo, a Bellmore native and a Mepham High School graduate. Cuzzo ran cross country for Mepham and after his running career ended upon graduation in 1976, he and some of his teammates decided to start the team.

The Independence Day event, that has occurred for more than three decades, has become a Bellmore tradition.

The race will start at 8:30 a.m. on Pettit Avenue across from the Bellmore Long Island Rail Road Station and will end on Grand Avenue.
