Recently, continuing on an exciting season, the Bellmore Blue Fire U-14 girls fastpitch softball team won the District 31 championship defeating Massapequa in a best-of-3 series.
During the first game, Bellmore’s Alexa Boscarino pitched a gem and held Massapequa to just one run, as the Blue Fire went on to win 9-1 in the opening-round game.

Although the game was somewhat close in the first couple of innings, Mairead Ryan stepped in to deliver a great base hit to the gap and get the Bellmore team going.
“Mairead’s timing in getting the team going that inning was key," Bellmore head coach Joe Maniscalco said. "The girls appeared a bit tired during the game and we needed someone to step up – this time it was Mairead."

"That is what is special about these girls," Maniscalo added, "It’s is a different girl every game and every tournament."
The next inning followed with great at-bats and hits by Sara Coluccio, Kristina Barry and Jamie Kanner. The at-bats led the way for Bellmore to score five runs in the inning with Katie Grodski again delivering some serious blows to the Massapequa pitching staff.
Boscarino dominated from the first pitch for the Blue Fire. She toss a seven-inning complete game and struck out 10.
Game 2 was played on Wednesday, July 13. Bellmore went to Brianna Maniscalco on the pitcher’s mound to close out the championship – and it was another dominating pitching performance.
Brianna threw a one-hit shutout, while striking out 10 batters to defeat Massapequa and bring home the District 31 Championship for Bellmore.
Brianna was on fire at the plate as well. She delivered key base hits to start rallies and bring in runners.
Bellmore jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, which was more than enough for Brianna, who was focused and in the zone from the first pitch. Bellmore’s catcher Nicole Aliberti threw out runners in both games and dominated behind the plate.
Hitting during the second game was delivered by the lead-off hitter Ashley Boscarino, who had three hits on the day. Nicole Moccio, Amanda Steinberg and Emily Madden also had key hits during the championship game.
"The girls are very excited about the win and the opportunity to play in the sectionals," said Steve Kropp, President of Bellmore Little League. "Bellmore is extremely proud of their accomplishment."
The Bellmore BlueFire U-14 team consists of Ashley Boscarino, Alexa Boscarino, Mairead Ryan, Brianna Maniscalco, Amanda Riveira, Nicole Moccio, Nicole Aliberti, Amanda Steinberg, Emily Madden, Kristina Barry, Katie Grodski, Sara Coluccio, Jamie Kanner, and Tori Rinck.
