Bellmore Woman Arrested; Attempts to Escape Police Custody
Camille Baez allegedly also stole a car from Winthrop Hospital one day before her arrest.

A Bellmore woman allegedly assaulted police officers while attempting to escape custody in Rockville Centre late Wednesday night.
According to detectives, Nassau County police were alerted to a suspicious car on Atkinson Road in Rockville Centre when they found Camille Baez, 29, as the driver with what appeared to be 19 Oxycodone pills in plain view in the center console. Police said Baez did not provide a prescription for the medication.
Additionally, while officers were running a computer check on the vehicle, it was revealed the car was stolen on April 24 from Winthrop Hospital in Mineola.

The defendant was placed under arrest, but after she was transported to the Rockville Centre Police Department, she attempted to escape custody and injured an officer in the process. The officer was transported to a local hospital and was treated and released for a sprained left middle finger.
Baez is being charged with 2nd degree assault, 3rd degree grand larceny, 4th degree grand larceny, 2nd degree escape and criminal possession of a controlled substance. Baez will be arraigned on Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
