
Mepham, Kennedy and Calhoun High Schools were recently mentioned in a Newsweek ranking of America's best high schools, where 1,983 schools are listed.
For the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District, John F. Kennedy High School placed highest at 268th in the country. With a 99 percent graduation rate, JFK sends 97 percent of its students to college, and the average SAT score is 1598.
Next, Calhoun High School ranks 360th in the nation. Also with a 99 percent graduation rate, Calhoun sends 97 percent of kids to college. The average SAT score is 1592.
Lastly, Mepham High School ranked 577th in the country. With a 98 percent graduation rate, Mepham sends 94 percent of its students to college, and the average SAT score is 1532.
The number one school in the country, according to the report, is Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
