Bellmore's Bowlers Keep Rolling Along
Bellmore-Merrick girls team snap Division's game-winning streak in losing match.
While the Bellmore-Merrick boys added another notch in their belts on Monday, their female counterparts, coached by Karen Cinelli, also made a valiant bid to find the same success against Division's girls team. Theirs, however, was a far more daunting assignment, as their rivals sported an unblemished 7-0 match record for the season to that point. Although they ultimately came up short against their formidable foes, the Bellmore-Merrick girls did succeed in accomplishing one very notable feat: they managed to snap the incredible 22-game winning streak that the Division team had compiled this season (through eight matches, including this one).
Starting strong, the Division girls took the first game 723-631, thereby adding the 22nd installment to their streak. But they failed to maintain their customary high scoring output in the second game, and Bellmore-Merrick duly capitalized, winning it 629-621. Several Division team members expressed a measure of shock and frustration at seeing their cherished streak come to an end.
Ironically, Bellmore-Merrick's strongest playing actually came in the third game, in which its girls scored a number of eye-catching strikes, drawing applause from their fans, and had the most success in picking up spares. It was an impressive showing that would possibly have been enough to win a game against any team in their conference other than Division. However, the simply unparalleled Division team managed to correspondingly raise their performance level and take the game 714-668.
