Bomb Scare Briefly Closes Bellmore Post Office

A call about a suspicious package prompted police to investigate. Luckily, nothing was found.

A suspicious package left outside of the Bellmore Post Office Friday morning caused a scare that temporarily closed the street.

Police say the call for the suspicious package came at about 10:45 a.m. In response, the police closed down a portion eastbound Merrick Road, which fronts the post office. The bomb squad was called in to investigate.

The scare, however, turned out to be a dud. The package was empty, and no explosives were found. The road was reopened to traffic around 11:30 a.m.
