Burglar Claiming To Be Cop Assaults Homeowner

Police are searching for the burglar, who managed to flee the home.

Nassau County Police are searching for a man who broke into a Bellmore home on Saturday and attacked the homeowner when he came home.

According to police, a 36-year-old man returned to his home on Pea Pond Road at 1:30 a.m. Saturday and heard a noise coming from upstairs. He went to investigate and found an unknown man in the bedroom. The burglar yelled that he was a police officer and displayed a shield.

A struggle ensued, and the homeowner suffered multiple cuts to his face and head and a broken arm. The burglar was able to break free and flee. The homeowner was taken to a local hospital to receive stitches for his wounds.

The burglar is described as about 5-foot-8, approximately 160 pounds, wearing a black jacket and a brown ski cap.
