Closed Bellmore Synagogue Goes Back To The Future With Scrapbooks

The lost photos and flyers show congregants at Temple Beth-El from the 1950s-1970s.

NORTH BELLMORE, NY — It's been three years since Temple Beth-El in North Bellmore closed, but the memories are only now coming to the surface.

A former congregant uncovered scrapbooks dating back to the 1950s of life at the synagogue, Newsday reported.

The Jewish Historical Society of Long Island is working to get the documents from yesteryear digitized for future members of the community.

“They're just a fantastic time capsule,” the Historical Society's Brad Kolodny told Newsday.
