Why: The purpose of Dr. Stephen L Dewey’s presentation; “The Effects of Drugs of Abuse on the Teen Brain,” is to educate parents, students, professionals and communities at large on the effects abusive drugs have on the human brain. Dr. Dewey discusses a range of drugs of abuse including illicit drugs, prescription drugs, marijuana, synthetic marijuana, energy drinks, caffeine, e-cigarettes and Flakka. Additionally, through the use of actual PET images, he explains how alcohol and drug use affect the developing adolescent and adult brain. His format is non-judgmental and is based on objective scientific data. The presentation empowers teachers, parents, administrators, staff and communities at large, with the knowledge and confidence to guide their children/students through the adolescent and teen years.
