Elderly Nassau Man Targeted In Scam: Police
Police say the man was tricked into thinking he was sending his grandson money for bail. Instead, he lost thousands.
An elderly Nassau man was the victim of a scam that cost him thousands of dollars, Nassau police say.
According to police, an 86-year-old North Bellmore man got a call around 11 a.m. on May 2 from a man claiming to be his grandson. The man said he was in jail and needed money for bail. The man then gave the phone to a second man, who claimed to be the grandson's attorney. The second man told the victim to send $8,000 to an address in Florida.
After the man sent the money, he learned that his grandson hadn't called him, and he called the police. An investigation is underway.
