Originally formed as the Tax Cap Committee, the North Bellmore School District hosted this CEEO committee's first meeting on September 15, and invites residents to join the committee and/or attend this and future public meetings scheduled through December.
Whether choosing to formally serve on the committee or not, all residents are invited to participate in tonight's meeting.
(The North Bellmore School District encompasses six schools, five in North Bellmore and one in North Merrick.)

See attachment - open letter from Arnold Goldstein, Superintendent of North Bellmore Schools, which reads in part:
The imposition of a 2% tax cap beginning a year from now presents great challenges to all districts in New York State. What could all of this mean for North Bellmore, particularly in light of the cost cutting we have already made over the last several years? The answer is not reassuring. A 2% cap on our tax levy means a cut of approximately $1.8 million dollars from this year’s budget. A reduction of that magnitude would require significant cuts in programs and dramatic increases in class size. It would irrevocably harm the quality of instruction that you have come to expect and that our children need and deserve.

We Need Your Input: The Board of Education will be convening a committee whose members will represent all those who have a stake in the future of our schools.
The committee’s mission will be to explore each proposal for dealing with the effects of the 2% cap, and then to make recommendations to the Board of Education.
