Intersection to Be Dedicated to Fallen East Meadow Firefighter
FDNY Paramedic Rudy Havelka died after an illness related to his efforts during and after 9/11.

A Levittown intersection will be dedicated to the memory of an East Meadow man who died of an illness related to his life-saving efforts at the World Trade Center after Sept. 11, 2001.
FDNY’s Rudy Havelka died July 9, 2013 of a “line-of-duty” illness as a result of rescue and recovery operations at the World Trade Center.
The intersection at Birch Lane and North Bellmore Road will be dedicated during a ceremony Sept. 14 at 11 a.m.

Rudy joined the East Meadow Fire Department in 1974 and became Captain of Ladder Company 2 in 1982. He was appointed the Deputy Chief Instructor at the Nassau County Fire Service Academy and was a paramedic instructor at the FDNY EMS Academy.
