John F. Kennedy High School sophomore Blake Linzer was recently selected as the school’s representative to attend the 2013 Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) conference being held in June at Adelphi University in Garden City.

HOBY is a national organization that sponsors leadership seminars in the United States and around the world. It is designed to take emerging young leaders, like Linzer, and further develop their leadership potential.

Linzer is currently a member of the Authentic Science Research team, where he is studying neurology and some of the degenerative diseases of the brain, such as Alzheimer’s. At present, Linzer is taking Saturday college courses in astrobiology and neurology.

In the spring, Blake will join sophomores from all over the tri-state area for a weekend full of activities. Many of the conferences at the seminar will train students to become better leaders and to encourage them to bring these skills back to their high schools where they may be the catalysts for growth and development.
