Jimmy Trainor of North Bellmore and Kellenberg Memorial's Academic Quiz Bowl Team Wins Bergen Spring Tournament

On Saturday April 11, 2015, Kellenberg’s Academic Quiz Bowl A Team won the Bergen Spring Tournament held at Bergen County Academies in Hackensack, New Jersey. Kellenberg played well in the morning, losing only a close game in sudden death to Livingston High School. However, after lunch they competed with renewed vigor sweeping the playoff bracket to lead into a harrowing advantage final against then-undefeated rival Hunter College High School, ranked well above your Firebirds. Kellenberg won 2 games against them in a row by scores of 470-340 and 420-310, and took home the first place trophy.

The team is comprised of Senior Captain Jimmy Trainor from North Bellmore, Seniors Joseph Levano and Joseph Gallo and Junior Matt York. This was the end of a phenomenal regular season which included 2 other tournament victories at Scarsdale High School in January and Kings Park High School in March. In addition the team has regularly placed in the top 6 teams at the other tournaments in the year.

Now preparing for the Regional Quiz Bowl Finals on April 22, the team hopes to continue their two-year first place winning streak. The team has also begun preparing for their journey to Chicago for the National Championship on May 30 and 31, where they will face 272 other teams from all across the nation. They enter the tournament well ranked amongst nationally ranked teams in the entire country and are expected to do very well at the Championship.
