Liberty Provides Tools to Lower Costs, Conserve Water and Track Usage
20,000 Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Meters Installed Across Long Island and Upstate New York

Liberty is pleased to announce they have reached the milestone of installing 20,000 advanced water meters across Long Island and Upstate New York. The meters empower Liberty customers to make informed decisions on their water usage. Through the EyeOnWater app, customers can see how much water they use by tracking hourly, daily, weekly and yearly usage data, and receive leak notifications. Leak notifications are designed to prevent damage to a home or business by allowing customers to address leaks before they wreak havoc.
“In order for customers to limit their water usage, it is crucial that they first have a real-time understanding of how much water they are actually using. That is exactly what this technology does,” said Liberty President Chris Alario. “These tools allow customers to review their usage at their convenience, rather than knowing about it after-the-fact in their monthly bills. We encourage customers with these advanced meters to sign up for EyeOnWater and take advantage of functionality such as leak alerts that can help save water and correct issues expeditiously.”
The AMI meter replacements began in May 2020, and although slowed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Liberty is on track to install meters for all 126,000 customer connections by 2025.

Evidence of the app’s merits are already being reported. An upstate New York resident using EyeOnWater noticed high usage at their home while they were traveling. The customer contacted Liberty, who reviewed the flow data and sent technicians to investigate. After no issues were found on the Liberty system, the customer knew the problem was coming from inside the home. The customer called a plumber who confirmed a leak in the garage. “It was a mess,” the customer said. “If my husband hadn’t seen the usage on the EyeOnWater app, there would have been much more damage. The app really mitigated a disaster.”
With widespread use of the technology, more and more customers have the potential to benefit. “Reaching 20,000 installations is exciting for the company and our customers,” Alario added. “AMI puts customers in control, allowing them to monitor their water use and therefore lower their bills and conserve this precious resource.”
