Winthrop Avenue School officially kicked off its annual Parents as Reading Partners program on Oct. 11 with a magical assembly.

Sponsored by the PTA, Amore the Magician performed his act “The Magic of Amore,” which featured magic tricks, music and comedy, with a positive message on libraries, the value of books and the importance of reading.

This year’s PARP theme, “The Magic of Reading,” will include a book fair, a visit from author Darren Sardelli and a schoolwide “Drop Everything and Read” on Oct. 29. PARP features two weeks of activities, both in school and at home, designed to encourage parents or other family members to become active reading partners with their child or family member.
