Mepham Anniversary Celebration Continues Saturday
A homecoming parade will be followed by a Mepham vs. Kennedy football game.
Mepham High School began its 75th Anniversary Celebration on Sept. 9 with a ribbon cutting ceremony dedicating the newly refurbished Mepham Library.
With the generous support of the Alumni Association, the 75-year-old library was refurbished by professional preservationists to restore the columns, shelving and other wood surfaces. On hand for the celebrations were many alumni, including a graduate of the original Class of ’39; Alumni President, Carol Farina Kilgallin; Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Henry Kiernan; Principal, Michael Harrington, Legis. David Denenberg, D-Merrick as well as Mepham High School administrators.
Following the opening remarks by Principal Harrington, the Mepham Jazz Band performed the Star Spangled Banner. Ms. Kilgallin recognized the Who’s Who recipients and there was a musical interlude performance by the Mepham Jazz Band under the direction of Mr. Neiderman. The ribbon cutting ceremony was held in the library and tours of the school were led by Mepham students. Afternoon tea and refreshments were served in the gymnasium.
