Mepham Badminton Boosts Morale, Defeating Great Neck South 6-1

Jenna Cavuto shines on the court, defeating Faki Toida 21-17, 21-15 at first singles for Mepham.

Mepham Girls Badminton (4-6) defeated second place Great Neck South (8-4) Wednesday afternoon 6-1 in Conference I. Mepham expected a tough match up against Great Neck and came out with confidence and perseverance to come out on top.

Mepham's first matchup against Great Neck South resulted in a 4-3 loss. This time around it was different. Great Neck is one of the better teams in the conference and for Mepham to have a 6-1 win over them at the end of the season is great for the team's morale coming into the playoffs.

Jenna Cavuto shined on the court, defeating Faki Toida 21-17, 21-15 at first singles for Mepham.

"Jenna played great today," said Coach Anthony Cracco. "She defeated one of the best players in the county."

Mepham is the fourth seed in the playoffs and is looking forward to prevail starting next week.

"We have great senior leadership on this team," added Cracco. "I am confident we will go far into the playoffs."

The Pirates are ready to surprise with their playoff run. They have several returning players that were all county last year and are ready to lead their team to a possible championship this time around.
