Mepham Baseball Suffers Disappointing 13-8 Loss to Massapequa
Shaky defense and pitching lead to Pirates loss.
Mepham (8-8) suffered a heart breaking loss to Massapequa (8-8) on Monday 13-8. Both teams are evenly matched and played their hardest in yesterday's game. Unfortunately for Mepham they didn't have everything they needed earn the win.
Massapequa started the game off in the first inning with a run off of Mepham pitcher Tom Pisano. Pisano pitched three innings, only letting up two runs to the Chiefs and keeping Mepham in the game.
In the top of the fourth Steven Luczaj came into pitch and gave up back-to-back doubles to give the lead to the Chiefs. Their woes continued after another pitching change, giving up a bases loaded single followed by a right field error. The score was then 6-2.

Despite their shaky defense and pitching, Mepham did have one thing going for them, their bats. In the bottom of the fourth, Jason D'Auria led off the inning with a single up the middle. With the bases loaded, a sacrifice fly was hit cutting the deficit in half. Tom Pisano came up with an RBI single and Billy Ruvolo worked out a walk to make the game 6-5.
After their three -run inning Mepham's defense and pitching continued to trouble them and Massapequa ran away with the score, earning seven more runs.

Mepham didn't let the score discourage them and continued to fight back with their bats in the seventh inning. They put up three runs in their final attempt to salvage the lead, but came up short, falling to Massapequa 13-8.
The Mepham Pirates will play next at home against the MacArthur Generals today at 4:45. This is the first matchup of the season for these two teams. MacArthur stands atop the division with a 13-3 record.
