Mepham Girls Lax Loses Second Non-Conference Game
Cristina Olson scores five goals, but Mepham falls to Clarke 17-10.
Mepham was coming off a big win on Thursday against conference rivals Wheatley High School that brought them to 8-1 overall, but more importantly 7-0 in conference games.
The big news of the day was that leading scorer and captain Lauren Johnson would not be playing because of an ankle injury. Clarke knew this was their opportunity to attack Mepham and won the game 17-10.
The first half of play was not something that Mepham was used to, they seemed out of sync and a little on edge. Their passes weren't as crisp as usual and their defense was loose at times. That said, Mepham showed true heart and passion. The Lady Pirates always kept their heads high and didn't stop attacking the net.

Clarke goalie Michelle Danielle, who came off a 14-save win against East Meadow only days before, played an amazing game. The score at the half was 11-5 with Clarke in the lead.
At the half Mepham Coach Geraldine O'Brien told her team that she wanted the same effort in the second half as she saw in the first.

Mepham did not disappoint as they scored another five goals in the second half matching that of the first half. They showed resolve in the face of defeat and played with their heads high and didn't stop attacking. Cristina Olson had a total of five goals on the day despite being double and triple teamed most of the match.
With only a minute left Mepham scored two goals, one by junior Jayme Batcher and the other by Cristina Olson.
Lauren Johnson, who scored four against Wheatley and has stacked up 47 goals on the season, had to watch the game from the sidelines yesterday and said, "I hate not playing, its frustrating...but we transitioned well towards the end of the game."
Coach O'Brien added, "We played our best and Cristina Olson really stepped up."
After yesterday's game, Cristina Olson, racked up 31 goals on the season and when Lauren Johnson comes back Monday against Malverne, we should see another win for the Mepham Pirates.
