Mepham Has No Answer for Plainview JFK
The Pirates look forward to rivalry games after 65-28 defeat.

First, the good news. Mepham's cheerleaders held their own in the impromptu postgame Bring It On-esque backflip contest with their Plainview JFK counterparts.
The boys basketball game that preceded it? Not so close.
Give Mepham coach Rich Wojcieski credit for finding some positives in Monday night's 65-28 loss--whether it be Doug Marshall continuing to bang in the post despite what seemed like a pointless pursuit, or reserve senior point guard Jay D'Auria earning more playing time in the future with his spirited play in the second half.

Unfortunately, the night never really got started for the Pirates. They gave up three turnovers against Plainview's press less than three minutes into the game. When they got the ball past halfcourt, they endured numerous traveling calls on the perimeter before they could even set their offense.
"There were mental lapses, and when the pressure came on, they didn't execute properly," Wojcieski said.

Mepham hopes to get its act together in time for a pair of rivalry games coming up. Friday the team travels to Bellmore Kennedy for a 7 p.m. matchup, and the following Monday at 4:30 Mepham hosts Calhoun.
